Janmashtami runs late: the jhankis, the bhajans, the fast that breaks only at midnight, and then everyone is hungry at once. Patna Caterers has been cooking for Janmashtami in Noida and Ghaziabad societies for years: a falahari counter for the ones fasting, a satvik dinner after the midnight aarti, panjiri and makhan-mishri prasad, and the next day's dahi handi party if your society has one.

What do we cater on Janmashtami?

• Society Janmashtami evening: bhajan sandhya and jhanki in the clubhouse or park, snacks through the evening, dinner after the midnight aarti

• Home Janmashtami: 20 to 60 guests, falahari for the fasting family and a satvik dinner for everyone

• Temple and mandir committee: prasad distribution and bhandara-style meals for 500 to 1,000+

Falahari food for the ones fasting

Half the guests are on a vrat till midnight, so we run a separate falahari counter: sabudana khichdi and vada, kuttu puri with aloo, fruit chaat, makhana kheer, lassi and fruit juice. Cooked with sendha namak in separate vessels, and served from the moment people arrive.

Chhappan bhog, panjiri and prasad

For the midnight bhog we lay out chhappan bhog the way a mandir does, or a smaller bhog of the family's chosen items: makhan-mishri, dhaniya panjiri, kheer, peda, laddu, fruits, dry fruits and 56 small bowls if you want the full thing. Panjiri and peda are packed in boxes for distribution after aarti. All of it is quoted on WhatsApp by count.

Satvik dinner after the midnight aarti

From ₹589 per plate, satvik and hot at midnight: paneer, dal, kadhi pakoda, aloo dum, seasonal sabzi, puri, jeera rice, raita and salad, with kheer and gulab jamun. Counters are set and waiting before the aarti ends. A live jalebi or chaat counter is ₹6,999 for 50+ guests.

Jhula, jhanki backdrop and the dahi handi

We decorate the jhula for Laddu Gopal with flowers and peacock feathers, build a backdrop for the jhanki, hang the matki for the dahi handi, and bring the tent, chairs, lights and sound for the society evening. Décor is quoted to the venue; send a photo on WhatsApp. More on the decoration page.

Home functions start at about 25 guests. Society evenings and dahi handi lunches regularly run 200 to 500.
